About Us

Our Story

Originally The Vicarage, as you might expect, was the residence of the local vicar of Holy Cross Church, which is next door.
After a change in circumstances the property was not being used, and George approached Roy with the idea of opening a micro pub. Keen to get the right people involved Roy approached Andy and Ed, and at the same time George approached Scott. The 5 potential owners were already familiar with each other, which made working together that much easier.

In January 2023 we pulled together the group of 5 potential owners. It was clear from the start that there was a keen interest in cask ales and craft beers. We all agreed the Old Vicarage could work very well as a micro pub. Small but beautifully formed, to support such an idea.

We spent a couple of months thinking of the design for the bar, cellar, and model for the micro pub. There was always the intention that the venue would be recognised for providing great ales and supporting live music, as well as playing an active part in the local community.

The physical work began in March. A lot of which was done by owners themselves. Tradesmen were brought in where necessary, but the team has a good range of practical skills, which proved very useful in getting on with our plans.

We actually opened to the public at the end of May 23, and so far we are very pleased, and proud, of the way things are going. We get many positive comments about the lovely friendly atmosphere, and in particular about the ‘personal touch’ received from our excellent bar staff team.

One thing we have stuck to, has been our intention to maintain rotation of cask ales, rarely having an ale that has featured before. So far we have featured over 200 different ales in the first 8 months of being open. We currently host 17 different beers and ciders, all available on draft. We also have our ‘Fridge of Dreams’, stocked with bottled and canned beers from all over the world.

Whilst we do not prepare food on the premises, we have a selection of freshly made baps, pork pies, scotch eggs and sausage rolls, all from local suppliers, as well as the expected Crisps, nuts and scratchings.

Part of wanting to embed The Olde Vic in the local community, has resulted in several local voluntary groups using the premises free of charge. We have also supported village events by providing vouchers and donations, and hosted quiz nights to help raise money for very good causes.

More recently, since introducing our dart board in the upstairs room, we have seen the formation of a darts group. A team from which will join a local summer league in May this year. There is also a Carrom Board (Traditional Indian Board Game) and Table top Skittles, as well as other indoor games, all free to use.

All or part of the venue can be available for private hire. The room upstairs, holds around 20 people seated, and our special feature in the floor/ceiling brings the ambience and live music to all areas of the ale house.
We are a dog friendly micro pub and have a sizeable private garden which has seating and pub benches, so you can seek out sun or shade whilst enjoying your beverage.
We continue to look for ways to improve and meet the needs of our customers, whilst sticking to our micro pub/live music venue principles.

The Art Of Craft Beer

Craft beer is a beer that has been made by craft breweries, which typically produce smaller amounts of beer, than larger "macro" breweries, and are often independently owned.

Quality Cask

We pride ourselves in our cask selection, we rotate our cask every week with local and UK based beer.

Quality Craft

Our craft is sourced from all over the UK, we try and source craft beers that are not seen around the area to add that level of difference.

Fridge of Dreams!

Our fridge of dreams is always stocked with canned and bottled beers from all over the globe, we are sure to have something you have never tried before!
